KAFUE RIVER LODGE, KASONSO BUSANGA & LUNGA KIKUJI CAMP - NORTHERN KAFUE

Located in the North-Eastern sector of the park on the Kafue River. The lodge has 4 ensuite chalets overlooking the river and with the miombo woodland behind camp,  it is a haven to to a steady stream of game and birds.

 ACTIVITIES

GAME DRIVES - drives take place in the Lunga Luswishi, Kafue National Park and Mushingashi Conservancy. A good road network allows a far reach for the drives and covers the diversity of vegetationin our area. Sundowners and coffee stops are a must and you may just be surprised with a bush breakfast after the drive has finished.

BOAT CRUISES -  a gentle cruise is focused on birding and botany but as the dry season lengthens the river becomes the primary water source, and the game viewing increases wildly along the banks of the river with some great cat sightings and occasional elephant crossings.

FISHING  - The Kafue offers outstanding fishing for a wide variety of bream species, pike and yellowfish. This stretch of river  is considered by many to be one of the finest. Anglers of all skill levels will have lots of fun in the rapids, rocks and flooded timber with lures, spinners and bait for the various fish species.

BUSH WALKS - walking safaris typically take place in the Lunga Luswishi. After an early breakfast,  Walking safaris are very educational, a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the bush. The walking safaris are are a comfortable, enriching stroll through the bush. We have a tea break along the way and either return to the lodge for brunch or have asurprise somewhere in the bush.

BUSH BIKES - cycling trips can begin from the lodge,in the park or to locations around the game management area. A beautiful hot water spring that we often visit where the bush is open – a large dambo surrounded by miombo woodland which creates excellent cycle “territory.” We use fat tyre bicycles and they are very comfortable, especially in the more sandy areas. 

OUTDOOR DINING - sit ankle deep water on a sandbar for a fabulous lunch watching the incredible birdlife? Or a bush dinner– arriving after a game drive at a roaring bonfire with tables lit by candles for you to enjoy a delicious 3 course meal paired with a warm smoky red wine.

KASONSO BUSANGA BUSHCAMP - we highly recommending combining the two camps.

The lions of Busanga are a highlight of this region, the floodplains make for superb birding and Busanga is also home to extensive lechwe populations.
